Carol’s Nail Salon, 106 S. First St., has provided nail care services in Alhambra for over 30 years. The COVID pandemic of 2020 put this small family business in a stand-still for almost a year, and now it has reopened with a few adjustments in services.
Carol’s Nail Salon offers a relaxed, safe, and healthy atmosphere with consistently cleaned and comfortable spa chairs, manicure bar, and a private room for body waxing, threading, and eyelash extension services. Adhering to the policies and protocols reinforced by health and safety regulations, Carol’s Nail Salon requires both staff and customers to keep face masks on and practice six feet social distance. They frequently sanitize the equipment, tools, and work areas. Spa chairs and manicure stations are occupied with every other seating. A part of the protocol may include the standard procedure of checking customers’ temperatures and COVID screening for signs and symptoms. Carol’s Nail Salon assures that new nail fillers, buffers, and spa liners are used for every customer.
“I enjoy and love this profession very much, and it was difficult when we had to close for business last year,” said owner Carol. “We had to figure out how to make a living.
We did not open or operate when restrictions were lifted because it would have been difficult for us to bring our equipment in and out all the time, the weather conditions are unpredictable, and we did not have an accommodating space outside or in the back to do our services.”
Building occupancy is limited in the salon, and the number of staff and customers are cut down. Carol’s Nail Salon continues to offer manicures, pedicures, full sets, long faux nail fills, gel nails, acrylic nails, nail polish touch ups, foot spa services, body waxing, eyebrow threading, and the newly added service of eyelash extensions. David Do, Carol’s husband, said. “We have lost a lot during the closures. We had to dispose of many of our materials and supplies because they went bad after not being able to use them. We had to buy new supplies and materials and other items like the wall guards and hand sanitizers to keep everyone safe.”
Business has been slow because customers are still hesitant about going in for a service, yet since the vaccine has been released, clients are returning. “I hope to have more business and for customers to return soon,” Carol said.
Services for waxing, threading, and eyelash extensions are based on appointments only. New hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours vary depending on appointment availability. Appointments are preferred, and walk-ins are limited. Contact Carol’s Nail Salon for appointments and information on their services at 626-576-5512.
