Established in 1977, Asian American Economic Development Enterprises (AAEDE), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Monterey Park, California, has been a vital and positive force in the community of the wider Southern California. In this difficult period of employment due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), AAEDE partnered with the Office of Assemblymember Ed Chau, 49th District, EDD, CSC Health Center, DPSS, LACOE, PACE,WorkSource California, and America’s Job Center of California for its 10th Annual Free Career and Job Fair. It was held on August 20, 2021, at Almansor Court (700 S. Almansor St. Alhambra, CA 91801), from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
In order to create a welcoming and safe environment for people to attend the fair, AAEDE implemented multiple extra precautions and followed the latest CDC guidelines. Each booth was placed at a distance more than 6 feet apart from other booths with a bottle of hand sanitizer on each table. Touchless hand sanitizer stations were also set up at the entrance of every room and each attendee was provided a recyclable bag containing a pen, a disposable mask, and a bottle of hand sanitizer. Staff members checked every attendee’s temperature before they entered the fair and individuals with high temperatures or symptoms would be turned away. Staff were also in every room directing people to locations of companies, enforcing the mask mandate, and providing face masks and hand sanitizers to attendees who needed them. Lastly, a group of volunteers were walking around to clean high contact areas and ensuring that everyone was adhering to good safety practices.
Concurrently with the job fair, AAEDE partnered up with PACE and LACOE to provide a resume critique workshop and printing services. In addition, the Chinatown Service Health Center brought a mobile COVID vaccination unit to provide free vaccinations for people who were interested. Through these efforts, AAEDE’s 10th Annual Career and Job Fair managed to have around 500 people attending the fair, including around 69 employers from different industries such as banks, postal, merchandise, health care, restaurants, etc. Here, AAEDE wants to thank everyone who attended the fair and hopes more people can join for another successful job fair in the future.
