On Sunday, Jan. 10, Raymond Aston, loving husband, father of four, and grandfather of four, passed away at the age of 86.
Raymond was born on July 21, 1934, in Smethwick, England, to Arthur and Martha Aston. His early years were spent in an air-raid shelter because of the aerial bombings of WWII. During his schooling years, Raymond was a champion English Snooker player (billiards). During the year 1957, he decided it was time to sell his motorcycle and see the world. His next step in life was Toronto, Canada, which is where he married his childhood sweetheart Jean.
After visiting Los Angeles during 1959, Raymond and Jean decided Southern California was where they were going to start a family. Raymond and Jean moved to Alhambra in 1962. In the late 1960s, Raymond was a partner in an Aluminum conduit business, Alflex, located in Alhambra. In 1970, Raymond started a little income tax office next to Alhambra’s El Rey Theatre. And last year “Alhambra Tax Center” celebrated its 50th anniversary. One of Raymond’s greatest delights at Alhambra Tax Center was when a client sat at his desk, and Raymond would crack jokes and make them laugh. Besides billiards, Raymond’s other hobbies were fishing, golfing, and lawn bowling.
Raymond is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother (Derek), and sister (Diane). He is survived by his wife (Jean), his four children (Steve, Peter, Jenny, and Michael), his three granddaughters (Breana, Sarina, and Michaela), and his grandson (Derek).
