The City of Alhambra’s Memorial Day observance at Alhambra Park was canceled this year because of concern over the spread of COVID-19. In the meantime, the Parks and Recreation Department presented a Memorial Day observance in compliance with social distancing recommendations. A banner in honor of veterans was hung over Main Street, and a video montage of past Memorial Day gatherings was posted on the city’s website at
For many years the City of Alhambra, through the Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the local American Legion Post 139, have hosted the popular Memorial Day observance at the veterans corner in the northwest end of Alhambra Park. The Police and Fire departments, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Alhambra High School band, and the area’s elected representatives participated in putting on this traditional honoring of the nation’s fallen heroes, especially those who lived in Alhambra before giving the last full measure of devotion.
