Lorelei Gilliam, wife of the late Ralph Gilliam, passed away Nov. 30. Born in Hollywood, she spent a lot of her youth with family in Alhambra before moving here over 60 years ago. Her late uncles Will and Jerome Forbes were longtime respected businessmen in the Downtown area of Alhambra.
She had a beautiful smile and was well liked by everyone she came in contact with. She was always a positive person even though she was saddled in a wheel chair for over 30 years.
She and Ralph raised their family in the Bean Tract.
She was always a very giving person and donated to the Chamber of Commerce Improvement Drive, sponsoring the entrance lobby. She was honored by the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce, being awarded the “Past Presidents Award” at the annual Installation Dinner. She also donated to the YMCA and the Alhambra Library in conjunction with the Alhambra Rotary Club.
She leaves behind her daughter Virginia (Bill) from St. Peters Missouri, son Richard (Josielyn) from Las Vegas, and daughter Laura (Robert) from Alhambra, along with five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Some of her last words to the family were “Be Happy.”
A private funeral was held, and she was laid to rest with her husband at Riverside National Cemetery.
A celebration of life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Rose Hills Mortuary Chapel, formerly Turner & Stevens, at 550 E. Main St., Alhambra.
