The 29th Alhambra Chinese New Year Celebration and Carnival ushering in the Year of the Rat will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. It will take place on Valley Boulevard between Almansor and Vega.
People who are born in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac take up the personalities of the designated animal, albeit there is an imaginary one, the dragon. Rat ranks first in this cycle and is believed to be full of spirit, wit, flexibility, agility, resilience, and vitality.
The community is invited to participate in this festival, sponsored by KAZN AM1300/KMRB AM1430 and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce. There will be impressive stage shows, great food, surprise offerings from diverse vendors, activities, a petting zoo for children, unique Chinese cultural immersions, and close encounters with Chinese radio KAZN AM1300/KMRB AM1430 and TV stars from SINO TV 44.2. There will also be prancing lion dancers, mind bending Chinese board games, on-site calligraphy and brush paintings, fun activities for kids, and surprises for the whole family.
