Alhambra Performing Arts Center, under the direction of Chef/Artistic Director Bill Yee, will present its Annual Dickens Holiday Carolers Christmas Singalong at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in a free concert at Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church, 1850 W. Hellman Ave., Alhambra.
The Dickens Holiday Carolers (DHC) started at Southern California Edison 25 years ago as a casual caroling group and has evolved into an independent group over the years. The group comprises over a dozen singers from several churches and professional singing groups, including Lake Avenue Church Sanctuary Choir, Verdugo Hills Women's Chorus, the Towne Singers of Pasadena, and the Pasadena Crown City Men's Chorus among others.
The carolers wear colorful Victorian era costumes and sing an average of 15 to 20 times during the Christmas season. They can sing as a large ensemble (up to 15+) or in traditional quartets depending upon which member is available and what the client asks for. For the past several years, the group has been contracted by the cities of Monrovia and Glendora to sing Christmas carols in their downtown core for the merchants and shoppers during the Christmas season. They also perform at churches, private clubs, charity events, convents, Christmas tree lightings, and many more. Their repertoire is just over 50 traditional carols and Christmas favorites.
Mr. Yee has been part of the group in the bass section for over 13 years, which also coincides with his leadership of the Alhambra Performing Arts Center. The center recently hosted the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce Business 2 Business networking event and used Chef Yee’s chefs from his Alhambra Culinary School.
The audience is provided with song sheets and colorful Christmas hats and is encouraged to bring their jingle bells and their children to this popular singalong event.
Admission is free; donations are accepted to support the artists during the intermission
