TheLeapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care, recently announced the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and awarded Alhambra Hospital Medical Center an “A” for the third consecutive time for achieving the highest national standards in patient safety. Over 2,600 hospitals were surveyed, and 877 hospitals received an “A” nationwide. Alhambra Hospital Medical Center is one of only 51 hospitals in California to achieve an “A” for the third consecutive time.
“We are extremely excited to receive the highest rating for patient safety in the latest Hospital Safety Score,” said Gary Lai, MD, chief of staff of Alhambra Hospital Medical Center. “We are very proud of our entire medical staff and caregiver team at Alhambra Hospital Medical Center because they continue to put patient safety as their top priority each day.”
“This outstanding achievement shows longstanding commitment to a culture of safety that puts patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “For Alhambra Hospital Medical Center, saving lives by preventing accidents, injuries, infections, and errors is business as usual, and your community should be proud. We commend the staff, faculty, volunteers, leadership, and board of directors for their never-ending quest for the highest standards of patient safety.”
The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D, and F to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harm. Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Leapfrog’s grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.

Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog’s other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
