On Nov. 16, members of the Alhambra community were invited by Wayne Ratkovich and his team to an inspiring and informative tour of The Alhambra and the future development site of The Villages at The Alhambra, a vibrant new live-work community. Attendees were treated to coffee and doughnuts during the pre-tour orientation, where they learned about the history of the C F Braun campus and how it evolved into The Alhambra, a reimagined Urban Community developed by The Ratkovich Company.
Building upon the framework of the original mid-century C F Braun campus, the vision is to transform this historic gem into a highly desirable neighborhood in which people will live, work, and play. Preserving the best of the original campus landscape, The Alhambra will seamlessly integrate residential, office, and retail elements within a lush environment of heroic trees, elegant communal spaces, and a charming network of courtyards.
The tour encompassed a walk through the beautifully landscaped campus, where participants were shown the parking lots and warehouse buildings at the campus that will be re-developed into much needed residential housing over the next 10 years. There were stops at various buildings, each with a story to tell as well as other points of interest, such as the Bloom Energy fuel cells, which generate clean, reliable electricity with substantially lower carbon emissions than traditional electricity resulting in The Alhambra being approximately 75% off the grid.
The tour concluded with a lively Q & A, producing thoughtful and productive discussion.
