Planet Fitness Alhambra invites members and friends to participate in this year's food drive during the holiday season. This drive is a coordinated effort among local Planet Fitness locations (Alhambra, El Monte, La Puente, Duarte, and Temple City) toward a common cause: collecting and distributing food for those in need.
From Friday, Nov. 1, to Monday, Nov. 18, the community is invited to drop off nonperishable food items at the designated collection box by the front desk of these PF locations. As PF members know, Planet Fitness is open and fully staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so feel free to bring donations at whatever time is most convenient.
This is the second year Planet Fitness has conducted a food drive as a way to ensure that local families get to enjoy a holiday meal together with their loved ones. “Each year, I hope to directly impact more families in our community,” said Regional Manager Enrique Sanchez. “Last year, the company collected enough food for nearly 600 meals. This year, we are hoping to break the 1,000-meal mark.” With the community’s help, it can be done.
The most needed items include canned meat, cereal, macaroni and cheese, pasta, apple sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruits, granola bars, rice, instant mashed potatoes, nuts, canned soup, dry beans (red, black, and pinto), and other food products with a long shelf-life.
Colorful, nutrient-dense and fiber-rich vegetables are always in high demand. Canned goods last the longest on shelves. When purchasing items for this cause, please avoid junk food, items with glass or cellophane packaging, which can be broken in transit, and things that need can openers or special equipment to access.
There’s an understanding at Planet Fitness that it is important to give back to the community because this is Planet Fitness’ community too. Staff members are encouraged to assist in the cause by donating food as well. The more people who can donate food, the more this drive will be a success. Remember also that a gift of cash can give the highest return for the effort.
Planet Fitness hosted a food drive last year, and it turned out to be a huge success. PF thanks all of its members and staff who will join this year’s fight against hunger in the West San Gabriel Valley. Results of the food initiative campaign will be announced in next month's Around Alhambra. For more information on this food drive initiative, please call the front desk of the Alhambra Planet Fitness at 626-576-8800.
