Tri City Band Field Show: A 2020 Rose Parade preview celebration with President Laura Farber

The AUSD All District Marching Band will be officially welcomed to the 131st Rose Parade, presented by Honda, by Pasadena Tournament of Roses President Laura Farber at the Tri City Band Field Show at San Gabriel High Wednesday, Nov. 20. The celebration evening will be an exuberant 2020 Rose Parade preview performance for the hometown audience and AUSD alumna Ms. Farber, the first Latina Rose Parade president in 130 years.

A memorable celebration night is on tap from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, for the annual Tri City Band Field Show at San Gabriel High School. Special guest Laura Farber, Pasadena Tournament of Roses president and AUSD alumna, will officially welcome the AUSD All District Marching Band to the 2020 Rose Parade. Ms. Farber, who chose the “The Power of Hope” as the inspiring 2020 theme, will present the Rose Parade flag to the 270 band members, 30 color guards, and three band directors from Alhambra, Mark Keppel, and San Gabriel high schools.

The Tri City Band Field Show is a Rose Parade preview performance — a chance for the hometown audience to cheer the All District Marching Band’s heart-and-soul dedication and the 250 rehearsal hours they have invested to be camera-ready for the millions watching on New Year’s Day. On full exuberant display will be the musical and technical excellence that won them a place in the 2020 Rose Parade.

The AUSD All District Marching Band is one of only 16 bands invited to perform at the 2020 Rose Parade, out of band auditions from around the world. A total of 23 bands perform on New Year’s Day but they include seven perennial bands included every year. Students from Alhambra, San Gabriel, Rosemead, and Monterey Park make up the AUSD All District Marching Band, which is led by AUSD high school Band Directors Mark Trulson, Justin Lee, and Benjamin Coria.

Band families deserve recognition for their commitment to their students’ performance and practice schedule. The whole-hearted family, district, and community championship of the AUSD All District Marching Band made a big impression on the Tournament of Roses Committee because a high stakes Rose Parade performance before millions requires the backing and encouragement of a steadfast hometown volunteer army in addition to amazing musical and technical prowess.

It is because of funding sponsorship by the Alhambra Educational Foundation that AUSD band students have been able to undertake the thrilling, demanding, and expensive year-long journey to their once-in-a-lifetime performance at the 131st Rose Parade, presented by Honda.
