Join Soroptimist International of Alhambra, San Gabriel, and San Marino for a fundraiser dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the American Legion Hall, 24 N. Stoneman Ave., Alhambra, for “Mama Messina’s Spaghetti Dinner.” Former Alhambra Mayor Barbara Messina, known to her friends and family as a master chef of Italian comfort food, invites the community to share in the bounty that will include homemade spaghetti, salad, a roll, and beverage. The cost is only $15. It is the best deal in town.
The members of Soroptimist strive to improve the lives of women and girls in the community and throughout the world by addressing their needs and their obstacles to success by providing services and support to assist them in achieving their dreams.
On Nov. 16, the Soroptimists will hold their annual Gala. The theme will be “The Great Gatsby.” It will be held at the Sheraton San Gabriel beginning at 5:30 p.m. All of the proceeds from these and other events support the work of Soroptimist International.
Among the club’s programs are scholarships and monetary awards to deserving women and girls, career and mentoring support for high school girls at Ramona Convent, a literacy program, and toys for youngsters supporting the Alhambra Fire Department’s annual holiday toy drive that includes assisting the YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley with distribution, logistics, and more.
