The YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley will hold its annual Celebrity Waiters Luncheon, featuring local community and business leaders who will serve lunch while in costume, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Almansor Court, 700 S. Almansor St., in the Lakeview Room.
All proceeds will go to help fund the extensive programs of the YMCA for the communities of the West San Gabriel Valley, including Alhambra, Rosemead, Monterey Park, and San Gabriel. Join the fun, and support the YMCA by buying tickets at the YMCA for $50 per person prior to the event. Reserve a table for 10 people for $550.
“There will be great raffle prizes and auction items,” said YMCA CEO Valarie Gomez.
Generations of local kids learned to swim at the Y. Today, many more people take advantage of recreational swims, family swims, adult swims, aquacize, and watercize. There is a youth basketball league, affordable day care services, and a summer Day Camp. There are youth and adult health and wellness programs and the 91-year old Camp Ta Ta Pochon in the San Bernardino Mountains, refreshed by a year round mountain stream and bordering the San Bernardino Wilderness area.
Part of the money raised at the Celebrity Waiters luncheon will also go to furnish the new YMCA building. Thanks to Assemblymember Ed Chau and the California Department of Education, the YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley received $1.82 million dollars in order to build a family and children’s center at the Y’s headquarters at 401 Corto St, Alhambra.
