The Chicken Koop, 101 W Main St., Suite C, Alhambra, opened in February. With its first location on Whittier Boulevard, which opened in 2016, The Chicken Koop was given a great opportunity to open its second location in the center of Downtown Alhambra, and soon will be opening a third location in El Monte. “The restaurant business is not easy, but once you get it going, you have to push it to keep it going. It has to do a lot with the team,” said Mishelle Leblanc.

Ms. Leblanc; her husband, Jason Moreno; and partner Wilson Chang have talked for years about opening a restaurant and decided to establish a house of chicken restaurant offering the specialty of roasted chicken with homemade dipping sauces. “My husband and I are not chefs, but we know what we like, and we put flavors we like together and combine the flavors we enjoy,” said Ms. Leblanc.

The food is from a combination of places they have been and tastes they like. They put their minds together to create the dishes. The Chicken Koop has many delicious dishes on the menu, such as The Specialty Plate that comes with a half oven-roasted chicken, naan bread, and choice of two dipping sauces. The oven roasted chicken is brined for 24 hours to keep the moisture and flavors of the chicken so it won’t be dry. Dipping sauce adds the flavors of the dish with many flavors to choose from, which they call the fusion of flavors such as chipotle, sweet Thai chili, green habanero, and garlic spread. Every sauce is from different styles from different places.

Spice levels can range from no spice to very spicy. There are many varieties of Specialty Plates, like the Garlic Chicken Plate and the Canadian Style Plate. Add optional sides to a dish such as their number one favorites jalapeno mac and cheese and the brussel sprouts. The famous loaded nachos, very light chips made with fried wonton chips, is loaded with fresh and delicious ingredients of shredded oven roasted chicken, roasted corn, black beans, jalapenos, pico de gallo, and topped with nacho cheese and sour cream. It can be upgraded with fried eggs and al pastor. Grab some bites or share a plate of poutine, which is french fries, mozzarella cheese, shredded chicken, and brown gravy. The chicken wings are crispy and crunch at every bite. Choose from various flavors of house peppered, maple sriracha, and grumpy spicy.

At the bar, enjoy crafted cocktails or some tap beers. The friendly and accommodating bartender, Andres Ortiz, said, “Drinks are made in-house with fresh ingredients. We cook our own tamarindo, and it is made fresh daily.” Sweet to the taste buds is the Single Flamingo which is vodka based, fresh raspberry liquor, and fresh simple syrup. The Tamarindo Mezcal Margarita is one of their popular drinks made with fresh tamarind and tequila. Watch a sports game and enjoy specialty drink deals, such as during Dodger games Micheladas are $5. Chicken Koop offers a happy hour menu Monday, Thursday, and Sunday all day, and all other days from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with special discount prices on draft beers and appetizers.
