Alhambra Performing Arts Center, under the direction of Chef/Artistic Director Bill Yee, will present popular singer Matt Barber and his Sinatra Nights show in a free post-Valentine’s Day concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church, 1850 W. Hellman Ave., Alhambra.
With a passionate, uplifting style reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, and Michael Buble, Mr. Barber delivers songs known and loved with a sincere, meaningful approach. His passion for his music comes through in every song. Mr. Barber’s music has recently been featured on Los Angeles jazz station KJAZZ 88.1 FM. He has had had the honor of performing at notable venues, including The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Andy Williams’ Moon River Restaurant in Branson, as well as the Illinois State Fair in his home state.
He has toured internationally, performing at festivals, wineries, resorts, country clubs, and retirement communities, including over 200 Holiday Touch Retirement Communities. Since 2005, Mr. Barber has released five albums, Romancing Nashville (2007), Love Notes From Paradise (2009), It’s Been A Merry Christmas (2009), The Masterpiece Collection (2011), and More Today Than Yesterday (2015), with arrangements by Alan McPike and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, by Daniel Dennis.
For the Sinatra Nights concert, Mr. Barber will perform many of Sinatra’s hits, including I’ve Got You Under My Skin and New York New York. His goal is to not only entertain but to also uplift and encourage as many people as possible. His show, The Matt Barber Experience, consists of fun, upbeat, and relaxing music from the heart.
Mike Saul (piano): a professional piano player who has played with many well-known artists in various locations around the globe. Although primarily a jazz player, Mr. Saul is also adept at playing different genres like blues, pop, classical, and others. He teaches children and adults and works with other musicians providing performance coaching plus arranging and copying music.
Dave Enos (bass): From Crestline, Mr. Enos is an accomplished bass player who is also a fabulous arranger and producer. He has also been playing professionally for over 30 years throughout Southern California as well as national tours. He recently played bass and did all of the arrangements on Dick Van Dyke's new release, Step Back In Time.
Shelly Gordon (drums): From Orange County, Mr. Gordon is a well-respected drummer in the jazz community. He has lived in Southern California for many years and worked with a variety of bands.
Seating is limited; first come first served.
Refreshments will be provided by the chefs from the Alhambra Culinary School. Free-will offerings are accepted during the intermission and are used to support the artists and free culinary training for veterans including uniform and cooking equipment.
