Youth of the Year is one of the Boys & Girls Clubs’ premier programs that celebrates the extraordinary achievements of club members. Each year, one exceptional member from clubs across the country is selected to be the National Youth of the Year, who serves as an ambassador for the Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of the nation's young people. The journey to becoming the National Youth of the Year begins at the local club. TiLi was among 16 candidates from the various club sites. Candidates were from the Monterey Park, La Puente, Ramona Gardens, and Estrada Courts sites.

Since 1972, the Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley has provided a safe and structured environment to youth where they can learn and grow through access to high quality after school programs. The club’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.

The club serves kids ages 6 to 17 in the communities of Monterey Park, Alhambra, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Montebello, City of Industry, La Puente, Baldwin Park, and Boyle Heights and surrounding communities. In partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, the club has units at William Mead, Ramona Gardens, and Estrada Courts Housing Projects. The club has 3,020 members and serves more than 6,000 kids.
