The Academy of Special Dreams will honor Fernando De Necochea for his many years of leadership in the greater Los Angeles community and his lifetime dedication to higher education and public and community service that foster a more inclusive society.
Celebrating love, remembrance, and joy in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the Academy of Special Dreams Foundation will honor a distinguished Latino leader, Fernando De Necochea, who has worked to foster a more inclusive society and better the Latino community in the greater Los Angeles area, at a fundraising event hosted by Haydel Biel & Associates from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the home of Patty and Dino Barajas, Casa California, in Pasadena.
The event will feature a live and silent auction of art, photography, and other works by various artists with disabilities, in addition to face painting, food catered by Los Tacos (Pasadena), and music by Mariachi Silvestre and soloist Maria Lara. In furtherance of its mission, the Academy of Special Dreams Foundation, a tax-exempt public charity dedicated to bringing awareness to artists in the special needs community, will use the proceeds of the event to award college scholarships and working artists grants to artists with disabilities and to continue encouraging, recognizing, and promoting the exhibition of their works of art.
"Even though the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was adopted nearly 30 years ago, we must continue to emphasize the view that disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the right of individuals to live independently, enjoy self-determination, make choices, contribute to society, pursue meaningful careers, and enjoy full inclusion and integration in the mainstream of America," said Michael Dergar, Academy of Special Dreams CEO. "The Academy of Special Dreams Foundation, through our website and participation in art exhibitions, seeks to publicize the creative talents of artists with disabilities and each year provides financial support to them through our college scholarships and working artists grants."
Haydel Biel & Associates is a Pasadena-based firm of financial advisers who provide unbiased, client-centered, community-based advice. This is just one way Haydel Biel & Associates brings together diverse people in a social setting to support community-based organizations while spending time with old friends and making new ones.
"Haydel Biel & Associates believes in supporting grass-roots organizations, such as the Academy of Special Dreams Foundation, that strive for a more inclusive society by promoting and showcasing artists with disabilities,” said Ricky Biel, principal. “Similarly, our honoree is a tireless advocate who has devoted his life toward the inclusion of Latinos into the fabric of the greater Los Angeles community. We are pleased to host this Dia de los Muertos event not only to give back to our community but also to remember our loved ones who still touch our lives every day."
