Soroptimist International – Alhambra, San Gabriel, San Marino will co-sponsor a City Council Candidates Forum with The League of Women Voters, who have an 80-year history of empowering voters in the West San Gabriel Valley. The City Council Candidates Forum will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Almansor Court, Salon 4, 700 S. Almansor St., Alhambra.
Candidate forums give eligible voters an opportunity to get unfiltered information directly from candidates. To that end, the League of Women Voters has trained staff prepared to sponsor non-biased candidate forums for elections.
Both Soroptimist and the League of Women voters are impartial, non-partisan organizations that do not support or oppose any political party or candidates. Their goal is to inform and empower voters on the local issues that affect residents.
The Soroptimist Club encourages Alhambrans to participate in this exciting community event to help facilitate informed voting decisions in the upcoming November 2018 Alhambra City Council elections
Soroptimist International of Alhambra, San Gabriel, San Marino is proud to have been chosen by the League of Women Voters (LWV) to partner on this project. For just shy of 100 years, the LWV has provided a nonpartisan view of political issues, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government. The league is an international service organization that keeps a keen eye on programs that encourage education in general as is evidenced by their signature Dream Programs. They remain nonpartisan in local issues and do not endorse any candidate in the upcoming run for Alhambra City Council.
"Being able to provide an educational component by providing a fair and impartial forum in which all candidates have been invited to share their views and answer the public's questions and concerns for the city's future seems like a great way to provide service to the community," said Cynthia Jarvis, past president of Soroptimist International Alhambra, San Gabriel, San Marino. “Every City Council candidate has been invited to participate in the forum. At the time of this writing, five candidates have confirmed their participation. They are, in alphabetical order, Adele Andrade-Stadler, Suzie Dunkel-Soto, Katherine Lee, Andrea Lofthouse Quesada, and Dr. Laura Tellez Gagliano.
