Former Alhambra School District principal, teacher Dr. LaVonne Wood passes away

Dr. LaVonne Wood: July 4, 1927 – Dec. 30, 2017

Longtime Alhambra School District principal and teacher Dr. LaVonne Wood passed away on Dec. 30, 2017.

Dr. Wood was born on July 4, 1927, in Los Angeles. She moved to Temple City in 1955.

When Dr. Wood retired from the Alhambra School District, she supervised student teachers at Cal State, L.A. and then moved to Carlsbad, California, where she loved walking the beach with her two dogs and meeting lots of new friends.

She leaves three children: Mark Wood, Tressie Armstrong, and Melissa Auman.

“She lived life large and courageously,” said her children “Her life was full of laughter, fun, and high spirits, and she will continue to live on through the thousands of lives she touched.

A simple graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb.17, at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier.

She will be interred in the Summer Terrace, burial lot 3835. All are welcome who knew her and would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made directly to Hospice of the North Coast and/or the Alhambra Educational Foundation in her name.
