About 40 years ago when prosperity came to South Korea, new forms of restaurant experiences were introduced. One of these was the idea of cooking meats on a small grill built right into the table. The diners themselves would then barbecue their chosen meats to their own taste. This unique form of barbecue soon made its way to the United States and is becoming more popular every day, mostly by word of mouth.
Honey Pig 2.0 is one of the stars of this new Korean and now American tradition. Owner Don Kim has been in the restaurant business for 20 years in Los Angeles and has been running these Korean style barbecues for the last 14 years. He was the first owner of the Oo-kook restaurant. At the time, he was the youngest restaurant owner in Korea Town.
Now he has opened Honey Pig 2.0 in nearby Monterey Park at 111 N. Atlantic Blvd. #351, on the northwest corner of Garvey and Atlantic. The Grand Opening followed an extensive remodeling of the interior. Proud of his new operation, Mr. Kim said, “We have made significant strides in producing the best quality food, and we’ve made some major improvements in the restaurant interior design.”
Honey Pig 2.0 is an all-you-can-eat Korean premium barbecue restaurant. It serves thin slices of pork belly, called samgyeopsal, brought fresh to your table for grilling. Or try the kalbi, which is marinated short rib. Beef is also available either as steaks or in strips of the deliciously marinated bulgogi style. A well-stocked salad bar complements the barbecue experience. You can enjoy your dinner with a Korean beer, or try Soju, which is like a mild vodka or Makgeolli, a white unfiltered rice brew.
Mr. Kim said his restaurant philosophy is “to offer quality food at good prices and always respect the customer.” Check out their website at http://honeypig20.com/, and make plans for a great dining experience at Honey Pig 2.0.
