This incredible concert sung by a professional cast will feature the music of the greatest Broadway musicals ever shown on the silver screen: highlights from West Side Story, Showboat, Carousel, Chicago, Les Miserables, Man of La Mancha, Sound of Music, The King and I, Mary Poppins, and much more. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Gary E. Goodson Theatre in San Gabriel.
Next up is a special event, the Musical Tea Party at noon on Oct. 7 taking place in the auditorium of the Women’s Club of South Pasadena. This delightful event will feature afternoon tea, door prizes, and musical entertainment from Broadway’s family friendly songbook. The Musical Tea Party is a great way to expose a little prince or princess to musical theatre with SGVMT’s special pre-show Kids Zone from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The Musical Tea Party’s Kids Zone is perfect for ages 3 and up and will feature arts and crafts, an interactive musical workshop, and a visit from a well-known fairytale princess and prince. Special ticket prices are available for groups of three or more.
On Nov. 18, SGVMT will return to the elegant Cleaver Hall in San Gabriel to present Once Upon A Time, a concert exploring Broadway’s most enchanting musicals, including The Secret Garden, Camelot, Into the Wood, and Beauty and the Beast. There are two performances only at 11a.m. and 2 p.m. The 11a.m. performance will feature a sing-along portion and offer discounted tickets for children.
SGVMT announced they have been awarded 2017 grants from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Foundation, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and the San Marino Rotary Charitable Giving.
“The generosity of these organizations has enabled us to launch our 2017 theater business academy for youth, The Broadway Locker,” said Mr. Hundley.
The Broadway Locker is a weekend workshop open to high school aged students with an interest in the theater arts. Students will participate in a series of hands-on workshops, such as theater master classes taught by top theater professionals, industry speaker panels with casting and industry insiders providing insights on job opportunities, and theater business workshops in producing and fundraising in order to help students produce their own show.
The goal of The Broadway Locker is to provide students with a fun, intensive theater experience that will help prepare them for a career in the arts. This workshop is open to all skill levels, and enrollment is now open for the workshop taking place Sept. 9 and 10 at the Gary E. Goodson Theatre in San Gabriel. The cost is $75 per student. Included in the cost is all of the theater workshops, a theater resource guidebook, and two complimentary tickets for students to bring a parent, guardian, or guest to experience our Broadway Goes Hollywood production. The Broadway Locker is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and in part with funds received from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Foundation.
