In April, Baldwin PTA President Dawna Yip entered a competition on Facebook titled Teacher Appreciation Week #ThankATeacher contest. This contest was open to every school in America and required a PTA member to submit a photo or video on social media depicting their teachers’ importance with the hashtag #ThankATeacher. The picture was to be accompanied by a brief essay describing how the school’s teachers have a positive impact on their students and the school itself.
Once all submissions were entered, a panel of five to seven judges appointed by National PTA graded the entries to determine the winners. According to National PTA, each item was graded based on “the positive impact of the entry (50%), the potential impact of the entry (30%), and the strength and clarity of the essay (20%).” Of the hundreds of entries received by National PTA, Martha Baldwin won the grand prize of a $4,500 Google Express Shopping Spree to go toward improving the school’s teacher’s lounge along with a Google Home device.
To commemorate the teachers, Baldwin held a surprise announcement during National Teachers Appreciation Week ceremony where Google representatives Dawna Yip and Supt. Laura Tellez-Gagliano presented Baldwin teachers with their well-deserved gifts. As expected, teachers were ecstatic to learn of their national recognition as well as their newly supplied teacher’s lounge. Some of the items included a new toaster, coffee maker, TV, oven mitts, chairs, and patio furniture. Baldwin teachers look forward to putting these gifts to use and will continue to provide a great educational experience for their students.
