Joanna Vargas, owner and CEO of The Fit Factor, was installed as the 114th president of the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce on June 16 at Almansor Court. The Chamber’s annual dinner attracted a crowd of 200 members and friends.
Congratulatory certificates were presented to outgoing Chamber President Evike Chang by U.S. Rep. Judy Chu; State Sen. Ed Hernandez, by representative Jessica Leyva; State Assemblymember Ed Chau; Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, by representative Christian Daly; the State Board of Equalization, by Chief Legal Counsel Linda Cheng; the City of Alhambra, by Mayor David Mejia; and the Alhambra Unified School District, by School Board President Jane Anderson.
Retired Alhambra Unified School District Supt. Laura Tellez-Gagliano, who has retired after an outstanding 40-year career as an educator and administrator, received the Chamber’s prestigious Past Presidents’ Award, presented by Chamber board member and past President Valarie Gomez.
Chamber board member Megan Moloughney, The Ratkovich Co./The Alhambra, made the Outstanding Business of the Year presentation to New Century BMW.
Chamber Past President Mark Paulson served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies directing the evening’s program honoring Mr. Chang for his many contributions to the Chamber during his 2016-2017 tenure. The outgoing president briefly highlighted the many successes during his 2015-2016 term and was particularly proud of his Alhambra Card with 15,000 of them in circulation now.
The program featured a presentation by Marianne Emma Jeff, WBMC founder and CEO, on “The Label of Success.”
The new 2017-2018 Board of Directors, led by President Vargas, was sworn into office. In addition to President Vargas, the Executive Committee of the Board will include Vice President Megan Moloughney —The Ratkovich Company/The Alhambra, Immediate Past-President Chang — Evike.com, and At Large Members Robert Fukui — High Point Marketing, Valarie Gomez — YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley, Lee Lieberg — LandZ Real Estate, and Mark Paulson — Anthony Venti Realty.
Also helping Mr. Chang lead the Chamber in 2017-2018 will be board members Nickie Chan — Life Wave, Salvador Ramirez — Republic Services, Iris Lai — Alhambra Hospital Medical Center, Stephen Pan — New Century BMW, Joe Pavon — Al’s Towing, Helen Romero-Shaw — The Gas Company, Lorraine Simpson — Credit Union of Southern California, Craig Statton — Atherton Baptist Homes, Dr. David Snyder —Snyder Optometry, Inc., Walter Tang — Superior Scientific, and Liza Rodriguez — Vidorra.
