PopRock Academy, 11 S. Second St., will offer a one week performing arts summer camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 12, through Friday, June 16. The program is created by PopRock’s founder and professional actor Paul Kwo, one of the breakout stars of the God's Not Dead franchise. He has been educating the next generation for more than 20 years.
PopRock summer camp has been featured on Good Day LA Fox 11 News. The summer camp has drawn students from the greater surrounding area to attend. Students have learned valuable performing skills and have gained confidence in their abilities, which has helped them become more successful in other areas of life. PopRock nurtures the students’ own creativity, which can be applied to their regular school projects and presentations.
The summer camp program, for students ages 8 to 14, will learn singing, dancing, and acting from professional instructors in a fun and exciting environment. The singing classes will help students gain knowledge of how to improve their voices and sound. A stronger voice can give students a better singing voice and more confidence in their day-to-day communications. The dance classes will provide students with skills in hip hop and jazz dance. Dance will help develop their coordination skills, which in turn will give them more control of their bodies, a vital skill for students to have to become better at doing presentations at school. The acting classes will give students both improv and on-camera training. In this digital age, PopRock’s improv training will help with students' social skills development. Knowing how to be on camera is a must for every future leader in any business or trade.
The summer camp also features the popular Glee program, where students perform a musical theater style number to a hit pop song. Students will get a chance to perform for each other and their families at the end of the week at the “showcase.” The summer camp program includes a class in song writing, where students can express their own ideas and thoughts in their original creations.
PopRock Academy offers a year-round program for ages 3 to adults in music, dance, and acting. Students do not have to have any prior training in order to join the program. PopRock welcomes beginning and advanced students into the program. There are before- and after-care programs for parents who need this extra assistance.
PopRock Academy is adjacent to Alhambra High School, next to Bon Appetea. Space is extremely limited. To enroll, phone the office at 626-282-ROCK(7625), or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
