Alhambra Educational Foundation honors community’s volunteers, leaders

Steve Perry, president of AEF, accepts the Lifetime Achievement Award.

On March 11, the Alhambra Educational Foundation (AEF) presented its Annual Service to Education Awards Dinner and Gala at the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel. AEF’s 13th Dinner and Gala had more than 530 reservations for a first-ever sold out event. This year’s honorees devoted themselves to ensure the educational success of all students through continuous sponsorship, supporting educational music programs, funding visual and performing arts, promoting creative learning environments, enriching education through community service, and distinctive leadership.

AEF honored the following volunteers and leaders:

Business: The Ratkovich Company • The Alhambra

Community Organization: Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts

Community Organization: Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation

Community Volunteer: Jesse Chang

Community Volunteer: Irene Jong

Education: Dr. Laura Tellez-Gagliano, Alhambra Unified School District Superintendent

Education: Marsha Gilbert, Alhambra Unified School District Assistant Superintendent-Human Resources

AEF President Steve Perry was surprised with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented to him by the AEF Board of Directors who described him as having “a heart of gold.” This year’s theme of “Hats Off to Big Dreams” applauded Mr. Perry’s leadership and dream of growing AEF into the organization it is today.

In addition to his dedication to serving the students and community of the Alhambra Unified School District, Mr. Perry has contributed countless hours to volunteering for various organizations in the community including the Pasadena Tournament of Roses.

“My success to giving back to the community would not have been possible without the dedication of amazing board members and staff, inspiring mother Sandra, and my lovely wife Débora and son Caleb,” said Mr. Perry.

It was an evening of fun and fundraising for a great cause, as people bid on almost 200 silent and live auction items. Kelly and Shelly Ryan were the big winners during the night, taking home a beautiful 8-week-old black Labrador puppy.

AEF appreciates the support of the community that continues to invest in the future, which are the students, as Great Schools Make Great Communities, which helped raise more than $65,000.

The 14th Annual Service to Education Dinner Gala will take place on March 17, 2018.
