Santa lights tree at Downtown’s Tree Lighting Ceremony

Families took free digital photos with Santa at Downtown Alhambra's Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Santa arrived by fire truck on Dec. 2 to light Downtown Alhambra’s Christmas tree at Renaissance Plaza. Mayor Steven Placido, D.D.S., Vice Mayor Stephen Sham, and Councilmembers Barbara Messina, Luis Ayala, and Gary Yamauchi, and Council-elect David Mejia also attended.

Families lined up to take free digital photos with Santa and enjoyed free refreshments.

Dancers from the community performed scenes from The Nutcracker, choreographed by Allie Truax of Jayvee Dance Center. The performance was narrated by students from Poprock Academy, with a script written by Paul Kwo, who also directed. “In the Mixx” provided music for the final hour of the event.

Vendor booths, including Poprock Academy, Dr. Gashparova D.D.S., Blockheads, and East Alhambra Little League provided information about their businesses. M Juicery and Creamery sold $1 mini ice cream scoops, and Church in the Valley provided free coloring pages for children waiting in line to see Santa.

The Alhambra Fire Department collected toys for the Spark of Love Toy Drive.
